Atlantis Headwear: Leading the Way in Sustainable Fashion with Recycled Fishing Net Visors
Recently, I attended an eye-opening sustainability chat hosted by Atlantis Headwear, where I learned about their innovative practices in creating eco-friendly products. Did you know humanity produces over 430 million tonnes of plastic each year? A staggering two-thirds of that ends up as waste, with discarded fishing gear—commonly known as “ghost gear”—contributing to about 20-30% of ocean plastic litter. That’s where ReTraze® comes in!
Transforming Waste into Visors
ReTraze® collaborates with small businesses, fishermen, and NGOs to collect these abandoned fishing nets and give them a new lease on life. Since 2016, they’ve perfected a process that transforms these nets into 100% recycled polyethylene (PE) panels through careful sorting, washing, melting, and precision cutting. From 2024 productions, we proudly introduced recycled visors on all Atlantis collection’s items.
Innovative Features for Sustainable Fashion
Atlantis caps don’t just look good; they’re designed with the planet in mind. Atlantis uses a WR-PFC free water-repellent treatment to keep you dry without harmful chemicals. The inner lining features a Dry-tech band made from 100% recycled polyester, ensuring breathability and comfort.
We also use Aqua-®, a dope-dyed recycled polyester yarn from ReTraze®, which saves up to 99% of water during the dyeing process. It’s all about making choices that benefit both style and sustainability!
Minimal Waste, Maximum Impact
For our 2024 collection, we’re committed to reducing waste by limiting the use of stickers and tags. When necessary, we choose recycled materials for these components to make them as eco-friendly as possible.
With our Atlantis range, you’re not just wearing a cap; you’re supporting a movement towards a more sustainable future.
